If you are looking for a place to fish then one of our green spaces may be just what you are looking for. Parc Cwm Darran, Parc Penallta and Pen-y-Fan Pond all have fishing facilities. The fisheries at each of these sites are managed by local Angling Clubs and not by Caerphilly CBC with day tickets available for non-members.

Fishing at Pen-y-Fan Pond

Parc Cwm Darran

Type of Water   Small Lake

Fishery Type   Mixed species coarse fishery

Fishery Stock   Fishery was restocked in early 2018 with carp to 6lb and several thousand roach between 4 and 10 inches in length. There are some survivors of the original stocking still in the lake and these carp are now on average about 15lb. There are also some perch and gudgeon to be caught.

Fishery Rules   Rod licences are required for all juniors who wish to take part in tournaments

  • Barbless hooks only
  • No night fishing
  • No keep nets
  • No tins to be brought onto the lakeside
  • Permits are to be available for inspection at all times
  • Please handle fish with care
  • Please take all your litter home with you

Day Permits   Day permits (£5 Adults, £2 under 16s) are available from Green's Fishing Tackle, Pontllanfraith (01495 221881), Deri and Fochriw Post Offices, and from officers of R&DAS.

Parc Penallta

Type of Water   Two small ponds with purpose-built fishing pegs

Fishing Type   Mixed species coarse fishery

Fishery Stock   Both ponds are stocked with roach, rudd and perch to approximately 1lb. Bream, tench and crucian carp to 2lb and common/mirror/ghost carp to over 10lb.

Fishery Managed by   Rhymney River Federation of Angling Clubs

Fishery Rules   

  • No night fishing, camping or fires
  • Barbless hooks only
  • All fish to be returned to the water
  • A landing net is required by all anglers.

Disabled Fishing Facilities   Yes

Day Permits   Fishing is free to members of angling clubs affiliated to the Rhymney River Federation of Angling Clubs. A day ticket (£5 Adults, £2 under 16s) must be bought in advance for anybody who is not a member of these clubs. No day tickets are available bankside. Tickets can be purchased from Green's Fishing Tackle, Pontllanfraith (01495 221881) and Tony's Tackle, Caerphilly (029 2088 5409).

Day Permits   Day permits (£10 for 3 fish) are available from Greens Tackle Shop, Pontllanfraith, 01495 221881 or online at the Islwyn & District Angling Club's website.

No fishing is allowed at our other green spaces nor in the many other ponds at Parc Penallta and Parc Cwm Darran.
