There's no better or stimulating place for discovery and learning than our local countryside. Our green spaces provide a fantastic facility for your school visit for the children to get hands on with nature. Whether your school wants to do its own thing or make use of the knowledge and experience of our Ranger Service why not see how we can help you deliver the National Curriculum in an exciting and dynamic way.
We don't currently charge for our school visits programme from schools within Caerphilly county borough. That's right - it's free for all! But that's not to say it's a free-for-all. Your school visit will be tailored and structured to meet your requirements and enable you to get the most out of your visit. We'll discuss and agree a programme with you before you arrive. We already have some tried and trusted themes that may help you get a feel of what we can offer but we're happy to discuss other ideas and topics.
These include:
Take a look at our Let's get ready to Bumble! pack; a simple to use, activity-packed wildlife survey for Key Stage 2 teachers based on bumblebees.
Three of our parks, Parc Cwm Darran, Parc Penallta and Aberbargoed Grasslands have small education centres that are available for use by visiting groups - a bonus with our unpredictable weather. We have a range of specialist equipment from pond nets to pooters available too. Also, our rangers are First Aid and Forest School (level 1) trained.
Whilst it's mainly primary schools who look for our help, the Ranger Service are happy to help at both secondary and tertiary education levels too.
We may also be able to help and advice on providing field studies activities, practical work, work experience and in-school activities such as school nature areas and Eco Schools.
If you want to bring your learning to life, give your children a great day out or have an outdoor education query that we may be able to answer then contact Andy Wilkinson, Senior Environmental Education Ranger on
