A child's development is linked to healthy imaginative play, which develops motor skills, fitness and social behaviour that will benefit a child in later life. Parks Services provides 177 play areas across the county borough. These range from the swings and slides of a traditional playground to multi-use games areas, skate parks, kickwalls and youth shelters. Many of the playgrounds such as Morgan Jones Park (5 star), Waunfawr Park (5 Star), Rhymney Park (3 Star), Porset Park (3 Star) and Senghenydd Park (3 Star) have been recognised with RoSPA Quality Awards.
To ensure that access and play is barrier-free for all abilities we include inclusive access in the design of equipment of all our new-build facilities. Lists of all our play areas throughout the county borough are available for download here.
‘Wetter the Better’ aqua splash pad provides a truly unique summer play experience. If your children need a bit of cooling down and the coast is a bit too far away, then head on down to Morgan Jones Park in Caerphilly. Suitable for all children the splash pad features four water jets.
For something else a little bit different tackle our linear assault course, the "Ogilvie Olympics", at Parc Cwm Darran. The course consists of 11 stations of balancing beams, rope ladders and a climbing wall for you to tackle and help improve your fitness, confidence and balance. Pick up an “Ogilvie Olympics” scoring card from the visitor centre or download a copy here to see if you’re a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal winner!.
We've made tremendous strides in the planning and construction of youth-based facilities such as Multi-Use Games Areas, skate parks, youth shelters and kickwalls. We’ve installed a variety of these types of facilities throughout the county where they provide opportunities for formal and informal games for older children. Support for this initiative has come from many agencies, user groups and the police who recognise that these facilities help combat anti-social behaviour.
MUGAs are a great way to encourage young people to play informal sport in a safe environment. Each area is marked out to play one of a number of sports, including; football, basketball, netball, tennis and hockey. Download a list of the MUGAs, complete with a Google Map link, here.
Caerphilly county borough has 14 skate parks or ramps for skaters and bladers in the following towns and villages. Download a list of the skate parks, complete with a Google Map link, here.
21 youth shelters have been set up across the county borough to give young people dedicated places where they can congregate safely. Download a list of the youth shelters, complete with a Google Map link, here.
We have installed 10 specially designed football kickwalls as part of our ongoing improvements to play areas. These 7 metre wide walls, with built in goal mouths, are ideal for local youngsters to have a kick-about or a spot of target practice. Hopefully, this will help to keep them away from the walls, fences and vulnerable flowerbeds of nearby residents. Download a list of the kickwalls, complete with a Google Map link, here.
Whilst we carry out regular inspections and maintenance of our play equipment, sadly breakages and vandalism do still happen. Please contact Parks Services if you wish to report a fault or problem with any of our facilities.
