Our green spaces are ideal places for you to enjoy a range of informal recreational activities, but we also cater for more organised sports too. Our outdoor pitches catering for football, rugby, tennis, cricket and bowls are available across the county borough.
Home to many well established teams and clubs our football and rugby pitches are available during the winter and our cricket pitches, tennis courts and bowling greens throughout the summer. Most of these facilities also have changing rooms with showers.
We operate and maintain 20 flat rink grass greens throughout the county borough. The individual greens are run and managed by the home clubs with 40 different clubs involved. The greens are also open to members of the public under pay and play. Pay and play is usually possible between noon and dusk depending upon rink availability.
The outdoor bowling season normally lasts from mid-April until the beginning of September.
We also have one of the finest indoor Bowls Centres in South Wales. The Islwyn Indoor Bowls Club, located at Pontllanfraith, provides year-round bowling with 8 rinks and an extensive viewing area.
For those who enjoy long lazy summer afternoons listening to the sound of bat on willow we provide 7 cricket pitches that are home to 9 different cricket clubs. The cricket season normally lasts from the end of April until the beginning of September. More information on how to hire a cricket pitch is available on the Sports Pitch Bookings page.
If you fancy yourself as the next Andy Murray or Serena Williams, then why not make use of one of our tennis courts. In all we have 21 courts at 7 different locations where you can practice your serve and volley. Bookings for the tennis courts can be made through the local bowling club who manage the booking system. Details of the court locations are available for download here.
As the mainstay of our winter sports pitches we have 116 football and rugby pitches available with over 2200 individual matches played on them last year.
Caerphilly Pitchwise, our twitter page, is a convenient way for teams to keep up to date with the state of the pitches especially during periods of inclement weather.
Advice on hiring a sports pitch is available on the Sports Pitch Bookings page. There you can find application forms along with the terms and conditions that apply to all teams.
