A short section of National Cycle Route 47 between Nelson and Parc Penallta will be closed to all users from 20:00 on Saturday 27th March to 17:00 on Monday 29th March.
As a late addition to National Nestbox Week a new owl box has been erected on Penallta Marsh. It was supplied and installed by Reginald Moore Ltd, in partnership with the Countryside Service, as mitigation for building works in Nelson.
This month, Blaenau Gwent & Caerphilly’s Youth Offending Service (YOS) donated 25 colourful bird boxes to Parc Cwm Darran. The donation came in time for National Nestbox Week which ran from February 14-21 and encourages the public to create homes for nesting birds and promotes the conservation and diversity of wildlife.

Most of our country park trees are quite young with very few nest holes. So as it is National Nestbox Week, CCBC Countryside Service will be showing how they’ve been helping provide new nests sites and with the help of local school children.
The section of National Cycle Route 47 between Full Moon Cottage in Sirhowy Valley Country Park and Islwyn Road, Crosskeys is closed to all users to allow essential repairs to be made to the Full Moon River Bridge. The bridge suffered damage from flood water in March 2020 and it will remain closed until the work is completed.
A new hedge has recently been planted at Full Moon in Sirhowy Valley Country Park to improve the entrance for both its wildlife and landscape value.
The car parks at Parc Cwm Darran will be closed for short periods during February for repairs.
