Ystrad Mynach Park covers approximately 11 hectares of open green space with rugby and football pitches, tennis courts, a bowling green and a children's playground all set amongst some fine parkland trees. Set against a backdrop of native woodland and wildflower meadows it's been recognised for high quality management winning a Green Flag Award.

Located within the park is an unusual glacial landform called a drumlin, a leftover from the last Ice Age. Something much more recent is the Centre of Sporting Excellence; a modern all-weather facility catering for a range of sports, particularly rugby and football with two grandstands each capable of holding 500 spectators. There are other rugby pitches, home to Penallta RFC, a bowling green and tennis courts. For something a little bit different why not have a game of table tennis on our permanent outdoor table - all you need are your own bats and ball.

What to see and do

Playground

This popular children's playground has a wide array of play equipment all set on soft impact surfacing. The playground is enclosed and there are plenty of benches for resting between exertions or for keeping an eye on the little ones. There's the usual range of swings, climbing frames and see-saws but the highlight is the 4 metre high helter skelter. A must for any adventurous child!

Centre of Sporting Excellence

Opened in 2014 Caerphilly County Borough Council's Centre for Sporting Excellence is an important regional sporting asset. The Centre's facilities include an IRB 22 ratified 3G rugby pitch, a FIFA 2 star 3G football pitch, conference rooms, a strength and conditioning room and medical & first aid rooms. The Newport Gwent Dragons regional rugby side use it as a training facility along with a wide array of local teams. It's also well used for sporting events and competitions.
