New Hedge for Full Moon

A new hedge has recently been planted at Full Moon in Sirhowy Valley Country Park to improve the entrance for both its wildlife and landscape value. A mixture of native broadleaved trees including beech, hawthorn and hazel have been planted in the 50 metre hedge.

Nye Minton, the Countryside Service’s Apprentice Ranger said ”We had a to remove an old rotten fence at the top of the bank. With the recent clearance of the larch on the adjacent Natural Resources Wales it’s much lighter in the area and we thought a new hedge would be a better alternative to a fence.”

In time, the new hedge will act as a permanent barrier as well as providing important habitat for wildlife.
