Reopening of Country Parks

Following the announcement by Welsh Government we have taken the decision to reopen the car parks within our Country Parks in the County Borough with immediate effect (from Saturday 30th May).

All 5 parks will reopen, however the car park at the bottom end of the Sirhowy Valley Country Park will not re-open yet due to ongoing tree felling works by Natural Resources Wales. We hope to reopen as soon as these works are completed.

Cllr. Philippa Marsden, Leader of Caerphilly Council, said, “I welcome this decision to allow our residents to once again enjoy our beautiful country parks, however I must stress the importance of social distancing when using these facilities. As a community you have truly united to control this virus and we need to continue to act in accordance with the law.”

Works have been taking place to ensure the sites are ready to reopen, including the erection of social distancing signage. The pay and display machines at the sites have not been serviced over recent weeks, parking enforcement will not be taking place at these sites until the machines are back up and running.

For the moment our visitor centres will remain closed, however this will be kept under review and they will be re-opened when it is safe to do so. There are no plans at present to reopen children’s play areas, MUGAs, skate parks. These will remain closed, along with many other councils across Wales, a decision that was taken in accordance with Welsh Government guidance and legislation.
